Don Norford

Head Varsity Coach

Long Beach Poly

 

Don Norford was born September 29, 1946 in Los Angeles, California.  His residence has always been Long Beach for many years, along with his late wife Carol Norford.  He has been working for Long Beach Polytechnic High School for the past 32 years and has made a tremendous impact on thousands of young people. 

 

Don has made quite a name for himself and for those who are around him daily.  He believes in his staff and their ability to coach and grow with the program here at Poly.  Not only is he a great coach, but he is also a great teacher, motivator, counselor, friend, and father figure to many.  In addition, he has 3 children of his own along with 3 grandchildren.  Coach Norford always makes time for his family; whether it be immediate or extended family.

 

Don first began coaching in 1970, for the Long Beach Lancers as well as coaching football for the pop-warner league.  He was the asst. Track and Field coach here at Poly from 1978 through 1989.  After the 1989 season he became the Head Varsity coach and as a whole has won 18 boys and girls CIF championships and 13 State championships titles. He has trained and produced many world renown pro and collegiate athletes who still to this day come back to receive one of his dynamic workouts. This year he and his coaching staff look forward to a great and productive season.
